Foundations of Accredited Educational Activity Planning: Part 1

Welcome to Foundations of Accredited Educational Activity Planning, Part 1 of the Building Effective Continuing Education Activities: From Practice Gaps to Team and Patient Outcomes series.

This course is designed for Course Authors and Educational Planners responsible for developing, managing, and supporting Joint Accredited continuing education activities at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Participants will explore the foundational principles of accredited education planning, including Joint Accreditation requirements, interprofessional continuing education (IPCE), professional practice gap analysis, educational needs assessment, learning objective development, outcomes evaluation, and accreditation compliance.

Successful completion of this course will prepare learners to continue to Part 2: Building Accredited Educational Activities in EthosCE, where participants will apply these concepts within the EthosCE platform and learn how to build, manage, and document accredited educational activities.

Learning Objectives

  1. Differentiate interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) from traditional continuing education activities.
  2. Describe key Joint Accreditation requirements, including independence, mitigation of bias, outcomes evaluation, and requirements specific to IPCE activities.
  3. Describe how interprofessional collaborative practice competencies support IPCE planning and team-based care.
  4. Identify professional practice gaps, determine educational needs, and evaluate whether education is an appropriate intervention.
  5. Develop measurable learning objectives, outcomes measures, and evaluation strategies aligned with desired educational outcomes.
